Genre: Family Drama

Director: Cameron Crowe

Cast: Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Elle Fanning

Rating: U

What would you do when someone precious to you dies and you run out of ideas on what to do? You go out and buy a zoo! Actually, you allow your 7-year-old daughter to advise you on that. Sounds promising, right?

Well this time, it was a decision that paid handsomely for the Mee family. Headed by dad, Benjamin, he packs up his family, and moves them to a zoo. Together with a handful of inherited, rambunctious and dedicated animal handlers, they revive the dilapidated zoo, making it a successful come-back.

Along the way, there are mishaps and plenty of laughter, as well as heart warming moments that make you appreciate the people around you, and also the lessons that sometimes nature can offer. Imagine your lawn filled with snakes in the morning and an animal inspector with a motorised measuring tape.

The truth is, many of us will not consider a hefty adventure with our families, especially involving wild animals and large amounts of money, but sometimes in the process of doing something right, all chips fall into their rightful places. And if you didn’t realise it yet, it is actually based on the true story of the Mee family!

This production by Cameron Crowe and Aline Brosh Mckenna delivers a witty, heart-warming script. Though it might not be the all star-cast, well timing, and vulnerable characters provide you with plenty of heart-warming scenes. Do look out for Little Rosie too, as she adds wisdom and cuteness to a role of a 7-year –old.

It might not carry a traditional Oscar-buzz, but the chemistry between cast members and spot-on delivery does qualify this to be a potential runner in the 2012 Oscar race.

An awesome "must-watch" for the family this Christmas season! Do remember to bring your in-laws as well. - By Nevina Kumaresan
