| Anwar will not sue Wall Street Journal on Israeli issue |

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 -- Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will not sue the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) over a report published by the newspaper on his support for "all efforts to protect the security of the state of Israel." Anwar said that the report published by the newspaper on an interview with him was accurate. When asked why he insisted on not suing the newspaper, Anwar said that WSJ had fulfilled all conditions that he had stated, in order for him to support Israeli's security. He said this when met by reporters after meeting Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who is also PAS spiritual leader, here today. The PAS Ulama Council, led by Nik Abdul Aziz, had called on the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser last week, to retract his remarks on his backing for Israel's safety in WSJ, or instead to sue the newspaper. On his meeting with Nik Abdul Aziz, Anwar said that the Kelantan menteri besar had listened to his explanation on the issue. Also present at the meeting was PAS Information Chief Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. -- BERNAMA |
